Fried Apples

Fall is the perfect time for apple dishes. Fried Apples can be enjoyed anytime because they are quick and easy. My mother, who was so very frugal, always fried apples that were past their prime. When the skin begins to shrivel and the meat is a bit mealy, frying will give you a delicious dish that you can eat as is or over ice cream, yogurt, served with cookies, or even spread on toast. No need to toss them out!

This recipe can be changed up anyway you want. I started with 6 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced. Sometimes I chopped them.

I melted 1/2 a stick of butter in a skillet on medium low heat.

The apples were added and tossed to coat. You can cook them to the consistency you like, soft like apples in pie or with lots of crunch still left. We like them with just a little crunch still left.

Now I added a sprinkle of Cinnamon. Nutmeg is nice too, and a tiny pinch of Cloves, or Allspice, or Cardamon. I usually add a tablespoon or two of brown sugar at this point but I was out so I added one tablespoon of white sugar and a little squirt of Maple syrup, then stirred and it was ready. It's best served warm.

Yum!

And that is how easy it is!
