Pocket Purses

This first posted at my other blog, Family Home and Life.

I call these Pocket Purses and they are easy and fun to make! I made them for my grand daughters but I want one too. They would be perfect for going window shopping as they are the right size to hold the basic necessities, just add a longer handle. Add a different handle to dress them up or make them your own style.

You will need two back pockets from a pair of jeans (be sure to leave a couple inches around the pocket when you cut it out) and a strip cut from the leg, about 22 inches by 3 inches, for the handle. A fun fabric for the lining is nice but not necessary; and a 6 or 7 inch  zipper for the closure (or a snap or Velcro). I removed the zippers from the jeans and reused them for my purses.

Update** Sewing For Utange left a comment reminding me that using a denim sewing needle is a big help here. If you don't have one, use a large needle at least. Denim can be hard to sew through and may break your needle.

Line the pockets up and sew around them.

Be sure to sew seams on the lining fabric the same width as you used on the denim pocket so it will fit correctly into the sewn pocket.

Here are my finished purses! Aren't they fun? I made patches to go on them too; patches of things that each grand daughter will love, just for her :) Now let's see.....what would I like on mine.....
