Drying Peppers
I leave some of my Anaheim Peppers on the plant to ripen. These lovely red peppers are then strung on quilting thread or embroidery floss and hung to dry. Like my drying rake/rack?
Once completely dry I will remove the stem and seeds and give them a few turns in the blender, then store in a jar. This will make my pepper flakes to use through out the year. To string them, I use a regular needle, piercing them through the stem.
If I have a short strand, I leave the needle on the string awaiting more peppers to come later. I'm thinking of trying to dry some green ones. Have you tried that before? How did it turn out?

Love your drying rack and I love you pointed out the needle on the string. It made me smile.
ReplyDeleteI love your drying rack rake! This is another one of those projects you might want to wear gloves to do! Pretty red peppers.
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! This was the first year we grew peppers and have a TON of red chili peppers left. I've been leaving them laying on a flat platter to dry but your method is so much prettier!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for those times when you have to harvest all your peppers because it's going to freeze/frost that night!
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered how to dry these. And now I know just how easy it is. Thanks for sharing.

Great idea! I always end up throwing some of mine away because we can't eat them all. Thanks for sharing with SYC. Love the drying rack also. I have a rake head I have saved to use for drying flowers.
